How to Get Your Car Ready for Kansas City Pollen Season

Kansas City has one of the worst pollen seasons in the Midwest. March through June, elm, oak, and grass pollen blanket every outdoor surface — including your car. Here is how to protect your vehicle.

What Pollen Does to Your Car

Pollen is mildly acidic when wet. It sits on paint and glass, gets reactivated by morning dew, and etches slowly into clear coat. Yellow pollen stains are notoriously difficult to remove once baked on in summer heat. Pollen also clogs HVAC filters, which degrades air quality inside the cabin.

Protecting Your Paint During Pollen Season

  • Wash weekly — Don’t let pollen sit on paint. Rinse with water, then wash with pH-neutral shampoo.
  • Ceramic coating — The hydrophobic surface prevents pollen from bonding. Much easier to rinse off.
  • Park in a garage when possible — Reduces accumulation significantly.
  • Don’t dry-wipe pollen — Never wipe pollen off a dry car. Always rinse first.

Protecting Your Interior

  • Replace your cabin air filter in March (before pollen season peaks)
  • Keep windows closed when possible during high pollen count days
  • Professional interior detail in April removes what’s already entered the cabin

Post-Pollen Season Detail

A thorough detail in June after pollen season ends — including clay bar decontamination — removes accumulated pollen from paint before summer UV sets in. This is one of our busiest detail times in KC. (816) 863-3064
