How Long Does a Full Car Detail Take? (Realistic Times)

One of the most common questions before booking: how long will this take? Here are realistic time estimates from a professional who details vehicles daily.

Exterior Detail Only

Time: 1.5 — 2.5 hours

Includes hand wash, clay bar, polish, wax, tire dressing, window cleaning. Larger vehicles (trucks, full-size SUVs) take toward the longer end.

Interior Detail Only

Time: 2 — 3 hours

Includes full vacuum, steam cleaning, carpet shampoo, leather conditioning, dashboard treatment, window cleaning. Heavily soiled vehicles or those with pet hair take longer.

Full Interior + Exterior Detail

Time: 3 — 5 hours

The most thorough single-visit service. Time varies significantly by vehicle size and condition. A clean daily driver takes 3 hours. A neglected SUV may take 5+.

Ceramic Coating

Time: Full day (6-10 hours)

Proper ceramic coating requires decontamination, clay bar, paint correction (if needed), coating application, and initial cure time. This is a full-day job. We typically start early morning and finish by late afternoon.

What Makes It Take Longer

  • Pet hair (adds 30-60 minutes to interior)
  • Heavy staining or neglected condition
  • Larger vehicles
  • Paint correction needed before coating
